It had been reported by Wikileaks that the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has several hacking tools to infiltrate IoT devices. The Internet of things (IoT) is the inter-networking of physical devices, connected device, or smart devices, allowing network connectivity and enabling devices to collect and exchange data. On March 07, 2017, Wikileaks began to leak- no pun intended- a series of confidential documents on CIA which highlights its arsenal of hacking tools, including malware, viruses, Trojans, weaponized “zero day” exploits, malware remote control systems, and associated documentation. The released documents are code-named “Vault 7” by Wikileaks. Center for Cyber Intelligence (CCI) in Langley, Virginia is where some testing is performed and is under the guise of CIA’s hacking division. There is some discussion about the Weeping Angel Surveillance technique which covertly turns smart devices into microphones. Other CIA’s agencies discussed are Mobile Device Branch (MDB), Automated Implant Branch (AIB), Network Device Branch (NDB), Center for Cyber Intelligence Europe (CCIE), Operational Support Branch (OSB), Remote Device Branch’s UMBRAGE Group, and Engineering Development Group (EDG).
